About Us
Hospice of Central Georgia, a service of The
Medical Center of Central Georgia, opened in 1982. Not only the first
hospice organization to serve the Macon and Central Georgia area, Hospice
of Central Georgia was, and remains, the only not-for profit hospice located
in Macon/Bibb County.
Hospice of Central Georgia supports life and neither rushes nor delays
death. Our mission is to provide for the physical, emotional, social &
spiritual needs of the dying person and his family. We want to assist
the patient and family in achieving a high quality of life.
If you are considering hospice care for a loved one, our team of accomplished,
and dedicated staff specialize in treating the patient, not the disease,
and are especially adept at pain and symptom management to ensure our
patients the utmost dignity in their final days. Hospice of Central Georgia
also is one of our community’s most highly regarded resources for
bereavement counseling.
PINE POINTE
Pine Pointe Hospice of Central Georgia is a newly constructed, state-of-the-art,
15-bed inpatient hospice facility located at 6261 Peake Road, Macon, Georgia.
Pine Pointe is the inpatient component to complement Hospice of Central
Georgia’s long-standing home care hospice program and is owned and
operated by The Medical Center of Central Georgia.
Opening its doors to the first patient on Monday, September 20, 2010,
Pine Pointe has already proven to serve a critical need in the middle
Georgia community. Patients’ families have expressed their sincere
appreciation for the care and services provided to their loved ones by
staff and have further noted the “peaceful and serene” feeling
that the facility has afforded them at such a distressing time in their
lives.
Hospice patients who have acute care needs, symptom management or pain
management issues that cannot be managed in the home, or are approaching
death (with a life-span estimated at 2 weeks or less) meet the criteria
for general inpatient admission. Respite care admissions are also accommodated;
however, they are based on bed availability and priority scale placement.
Pine Pointe’s accomplished interdisciplinary care team is led by
Dr. Richard Ackermann, Medical Director, and includes a physician support
staff, skilled and experienced clinical case managers, nurses, clinical
nurse aides, social workers, chaplains, grief counselors and bereavement
support.
Fully funded by MedCen Foundation philanthropy, the $5.5 million facility
is designed to emphasize both patient and family comforts. Amenities include
a picturesque, private location; spacious patient rooms, including sleeping
accommodations for one family member; all patient rooms open up to a scenic
view of a garden/patio area; two large, airy family rooms with fireplaces;
serene landscapes of flower gardens and water fountains; and an all-faith
chapel.
Pine Pointe’s mission is to support the patient from a holistic
point of view which includes the physical, emotional, social and spiritual
needs of its patients and their families in an effort to enhance and achieve
the highest quality of life. The medically-directed interdisciplinary
team is equipped and committed to delivering compassionate care and service
to each patient and family to meet their individual needs.
