Other Services
Medications
Under the Hospice Medicare/Medicaid Benefit and some private insurance
plans, medications needed for comfort are paid for and provided by hospice.
The medications must be related to the illness for which they are receiving
hospice care. Hospice of Central Georgia contracts with Hospice Pharmacia
along with local pharmacies to provide these medications. Medication taken
for a non-hospice related diagnosis are continued and obtained in the
same manner as before coming under hospice care. The physician will continue
to write prescriptions when necessary and the insurance will continue
to pay as before.
Medical Equipment
If medical equipment such as a walker, wheelchair, hospital bed, shower
chair or oxygen is necessary, Hospice of Central Georgia will provide
the equipment through a contracted provider. The nurse will let them know
if other needed medical equipment is covered.
Medical Supplies
Hospice of Central Georgia will provide skilled nursing supplies (such
as catheters or bandages) as deemed necessary by the nurse. For patients
who are unable to take food by mouth and who receive their source of nutrition
through a feeding tube, hospice may provide dietary supplements. As always,
check with the nurse to clarify what is covered under hospice.
Bereavement Support
Our bereavement support program is available to family members or other
loved ones for a period of 13 months after the death of a Hospice patient.
The goal is to help with grief recovery. Services provided through Hospice
of Central Georgia’s Dove Bereavement
Services include monthly mailings, phone calls, grief support groups,
limited individual counseling and consultations. The bereavement support
group meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at
Martha Bowman United Methodist Church in Macon. For more information about
our bereavement services, please call Hospice of Central Georgia at 478-633-5660
or 1-800-211-1084 outside Macon. You also may email us at info@hospiceofcentralgeorgia.org.
Other Supplies
We can provide disposable medical supplies such as adult diapers, chuxs,
foley catheters, etc. These make caring for the patient at home easier
for the caregiver and improve comfort for the patient. If the caregiver
prefers specific brands not supplied by Hospice of Central Georgia, these
can be purchased by the family.
